There are a lot of jobs in the sports industry. For instance, there are agents who represent the athletes. There are also numerous jobs with teams. Sports management positions are vital to the athlete or team. For instance the GM or general manager will be responsible for all the “general” activities of the team, as well as its finances. Because teams and athletes are located all over, you will not be limited one specific geographic area. You can choose to work almost anywhere in the U.S. and even worldwide if you choose.
One of the biggest risks in this field however, is what is called the glass ceiling. This can occur when either the team or athlete is no longer pulling in revenue due to poor performance, sales decline or no interest from the public. At this time, the teams will lay off staff or stop pay raises.
